Most people think roof damage stops at the shingles. That's rarely the case. When we got up on this home, what looked like a surface-level issue turned into something that needed a closer look - and once we pulled things back, we found sheathing that had worked itself loose. That kind of damage doesn't happen overnight.

Here's what's interesting though. The sheathing wasn't just a random failure. The real culprit was poor intake ventilation at the eaves. Without proper airflow coming in at the eave line, heat and moisture build up in ways that quietly break down the roof system from the inside out. It's one of those problems that's easy to miss until something visible finally gives way.

We got the area patched and secure, but we're not done. The right fix here means coming back to install soffit chutes and new soffit so this roof can actually breathe the way it's designed to. Ventilation isn't optional - it's what keeps everything else working correctly. Skipping that step would just put a band-aid on a bigger issue.

If your roof has spots that look off - buckled shingles, uneven lines, anything that doesn't look right - it's worth getting someone up there to take a look. What you see on the surface is almost never the whole story.
