Most homeowners never think about their soffit - until there's a problem. Old wood soffit is one of those things that quietly deteriorates over time. It traps moisture, it rots, and more importantly, it can choke off the airflow your attic depends on. That's exactly what we were dealing with on this one.
We pulled off the old wood soffit and got a good look at what was underneath. The exposed rafter bays told the whole story - years of inadequate ventilation, dark framing, and a system that simply wasn't doing its job. Before putting anything new up, we installed soffit chutes to make sure each bay would channel air properly from the eave up into the attic space.
Then came the new material - Edco Quad 4 center vent soffit. It's a solid product. The center vent runs the length of each panel, which means consistent airflow across the entire eave line rather than scattered vents here and there. That consistency matters more than most people realize. Poor attic ventilation leads to heat buildup in summer, ice dams in winter, and moisture problems year-round. Getting the soffit right is one of the simplest ways to protect the roof above it.
What we ended up with is a clean, finished eave with proper ventilation built right in. The kind of upgrade that works quietly in the background, keeping the attic healthier and the roof performing the way it should. It's the type of work that doesn't get a lot of attention - but it absolutely should.
