This one started with a section of siding that had simply run its course. The existing shake accent wall was worn out and needed to go. Left alone, failing siding doesn't stay a cosmetic problem for long - water finds its way in, and what starts as a surface issue turns into something much more expensive to deal with.

We stripped the old material down and installed James Hardie shake in its place. Hardie shake is a fiber cement product, which means it holds up against moisture, impact, and temperature swings in a way that wood or vinyl just can't match. For a home in a Minnesota climate, that durability isn't a luxury - it's the right call.

What we ended up with is a clean, tight installation that ties into the rest of the exterior without looking like a patch job. The new shakes wrap the corner consistently, the lines are even, and the profile matches the scale of the home. That kind of fit and finish matters, especially on an accent wall where the siding is doing visual work as much as protective work.

Partial siding replacements like this are actually a smart move when the rest of your exterior is still in good shape. You don't always need to replace everything at once. Catching the problem section early and addressing it with a quality product keeps the whole system working the way it's supposed to.

If you've got a section of siding that's starting to crack, warp, or pull away - don't wait on it. Getting ahead of the damage is almost always cheaper than dealing with what comes after.
